LUPIN: THE SUCCESSFUL FRENCH SERIES THAT DRIVE VIEWERS CRAZY.

Lupin is a French mystery thriller television series created by George Kay and Francois Uzan.

It premiered on Netflix on January 8, 2021 and has become an international phenomenon. The plot revolves around Assane Diop (played by Omar Sy), a man who is inspired by the adventures of Arséne Lupine, an iconic character created by Maurice Leblanc.

Arsène Lupine, is a gentleman thief particularly known for his talent for disguising himself, putting on makeup and assuming multiple identities to commit his crimes and solve criminal puzzles.

ARGUMENT:

The series follows the story of Assane Diop, a skilled thief and master of disguise, who seeks to avenge the injustice suffered by his father. Assane's father was wrongly accused of a crime he did not commit and ended up dying in prison.

The plot of the series is not based on real events, but is inspired by a series of stories and novels that, in some way, use historical events or stages to interweave their conflicts.

In many of the novel's plots, which are full of action, adventure, espionage, robberies and conspiracies, there are signs of real life: places, characters or events.

For example, the first Lupine stories are set in the Belle Époque, an era of France from the end of the 19th century to the outbreak of the Great War.

In fact, during the First World War, the character of Lupine stopped having anarchist tendencies and became something of a detective.

Another example can be seen in the pilot of the series, the thief steals a necklace from the Louvre that belonged to Marie Antoinette (both the museum and the historical figure were indeed part of the story).

This act seems to be based on a diamond necklace that, indeed, once belonged to the queen of France and that caused a scandal in the 18th century, when a thief wanted to get hold of it to sell the jewels.

Ultimately, what the innovative Netflix series does is apply the plots of these novels and stories by Leblanc to bring Diop's stories to life in the present day.

We saw the series a week ago and found it very interesting. We really liked it a lot because of the different unexpected twists in the plot, the intrigue it generates about the tricks that Assane Diop performs and the values that the series transmits about the love for his family, the respect he has for his friends from childhood and never forgetting his roots.

We also really liked the set design in Paris, using the most iconic places in the city to film the series.

And especially, we found the main character's ability and cunning to perform all the tricks he managed during the series to confuse the police and not get caught very interesting.
