A pitched fight breaks out between fans of Brazil and Argentina in World Cup qualifiers

During Brazil's first defeat at home in the World Cup qualifiers, there were moments of tension in the stands prior to the match against Argentina. The Argentine team won a 1-0 victory over the local team.

The start of the game this Tuesday at the Maracaná stadium was delayed after a fight between fans when the national anthems were being sung. The Brazilian military police intervened in the conflict, which delayed the meeting for half an hour. Some fans tore seats from the venue and threw them at officials. The agents, for their part, were criticized for the force used against the attendees involved in the fight.

Authorities reported that eight people were arrested, including a woman for racially attacking one of the stadium workers.
